Recently the government has announced the intention to provide rural communities with an opportunity to access funding for next generation broadband. It is proposed that a tax on landline phone bills will support this.

However recently the Trust has been involved in the development of a bid for European funding for a Broadband Pilot Trial. This is being made by Devon and Somerset County Councils and, if successful, the project will provide a template for delivery of Next Generation Access and Faster Broadband for Rural areas. Also this should provide solutions for areas that have no access to broadband at all.

The importance of faster broadband for businesses and communities is a priority for the Trust. Online form filling, record keeping, shopping, entertainment and much more, is dependent on a fast, always available connection to the Internet and is is vital for Exmoor’s future sustainability and prosperity
